Training the Top Talent

As the leader in the air medical industry, Air Methods’ hiring requirements and education delivery are unmatched.

Training To Clinical Excellence

At Air Methods, we provide our newly-hired clinicians with a comprehensive training program. All clinicians receive ongoing training, and we utilize both simulation and didactic education in development of our medical teams.

  • Over 500 clinicians onboarded annually
  • Over 1422 clinicians participating in annual training and competency evaluation
  • Over 475,000 total training hours invested in 2021
  • 30 high fidelity patient simulators

Centers for Excellence

Air Methods Centers for Excellence are sophisticated facilities equipped with simulation and video technology called LearningSpace.

Our Crew Members are able to…

  • Observe clinicians in real time (even from off-site)
  • Use advanced software reports that allow us to implement both individual plans and track trends across the country
  • Train for pediatric infant and high-risk OB patients, as well as standard adult patients
  • Learn and improve in state-of-the-art classrooms and debriefing rooms

Human Cadaver Labs

We use human cadaver labs for training on procedural skills and anatomical knowledge. The goal is to empower our flight crews with the confidence needed to perform medical procedures in high-intensity situations, supervised by medical directors.

VIRTUAL REALITY TRAINING

  • We’ve launched the first and only large-scale virtual reality (VR) program deployed specifically for air medical simulation to assist our team.
  • Our clinical trainers have written nine custom scenarios, and are continuing to build dozens of additional air medical immersive scenarios. Currently, up to six people located anywhere in the world can put on a VR headset and work together in real time.
  • In 2023, we will expand our VR program with multisensory experiences. Olfactory feedback will provide additional information using odors, and haptic feedback using sensory gloves will provide a more realistic interaction using touch.
  • Virtual reality simulations allow us to learn and practice while bringing our team together to improve patient care and safety.

AMERICAN NURSES CREDENTIALING CENTER ACCREDITATION

  • Air Methods has received an award of being the only air medical company to become an accredited provider through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
  • The ANCC accreditation program recognizes the importance of high-quality continuing nursing education (CNE), continuing interprofessional education, transitioning to practice programs, and skills-based competency programs.
  • Around the world, ANCC-accredited organizations provide nurses with the knowledge and skills to help improve care and patient outcomes. This is the international standard of excellence for nursing.

Continuing Education

We are an accredited provider of continuing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC [N008406]), the California Board of Registered Nursing (CABRN [16260]), and the Commission on Accreditation of Pre-hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE [AIR6901]). The type of credit awarded for each training evolution varies. Approval from these credentialing bodies allows us to issue CEUs to paramedics and nurses.
