Air Methods Prehospital EDucation Podcast Ep 27: When the Wheels Are Coming Off

by

A patient with technology coming out of everywhere.  He has a balloon pump, a transvenous pacemaker, multiple IV access points, multiple medications, intubated, a foley, and an nasogastric tube all keeping him alive. It took tremendous preparation, knowledge, training, and careful planning to move this patient to the helicopter to the receiving hospital. En route the situation became tenuous as the patient’s pacemaker started to shock the patient forcing movement that could potentially disrupt all the devices keeping this patient alive. The episode concentrates on how the team troubleshooted this issue and maintained their calm in the facing of impending calamity.
