Air Methods Prehospital EDucation Podcast Ep 2: What Are My Next Steps?

by

Our podcast, AMPED (Air Methods Prehospital EDucation) is back with another episode this month! The podcast, designed for pre-hospital and in-hospital care providers, sheds light on the unique and challenging clinical scenarios faced by our emergency medical crews. It is a first-of-its-kind platform in which air medical and in-hospital clinicians share their stories from the frontlines and learn from one-another’s unique experiences in providing lifesaving care.

In our previous episode, we kicked off the podcast by reviewing a case in which an Air Methods flight team was forced to take risks and go against expert advice and guidelines in order to save the life of a patient.

In this month’s episode, we hear expert advice from Brian Fuller, MD, MSCI FCCM, and Amjad Musleh, MD, as they figure out the complicated mix shock state their patient is dying from and what treatments they choose to provide. They discuss the questions “What is causing this patient’s shock?” and “Why is my patient dying?”. These critical questions arise when your typical solutions for shock aren’t working and the patient is dying. It is crucial to have a systematic approach based on a fundamental understanding of the types of shock, figuring out the cause of shock, and choosing the right treatment.

The podcast is hosted by Joe Hill; Hawnwan “Phil” Moy, MD, Medical Director for ARCH, Air Methods Illinois and Missouri; and John Wilmas, MD, Medical Director for ARCH, Air Methods Illinois and Missouri. Collectively, the three hosts bring decades of experience in emergency medical services and an array of diverse perspectives to the table.
