Air Methods and Anthem Partner to Provide Access to Emergency Air Medical Services for Anthem Consumers

Air Methods and Anthem announced that the companies are partnering to provide Anthem consumers with access to Air Methods’ emergency medical services as part of their in-network health coverage benefits. The new partnership covers consumers who are enrolled in Anthem affiliated health plans in Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio and Wisconsin. The agreement is effective as of August 15, 2018.

Air Methods will expand air medical services into Spearfish

Black Hills Life Flight, an Air Methods program, will open its Spearfish community air medical base this summer. On Monday, the mayor of the City of Spearfish, Dana Boke, signed the contract that approved the base move. The base, which previously operated from Rapid City, will provide emergency air medical services 24/7/365 to Spearfish, as well as Northern Black Hills, eastern Wyoming and Montana, and southern North Dakota.

Florida resident advocates for air ambulance care and insurance reimbursement

When Karen Espinosa suffered a stroke last year at her home in Lake City, Florida, she met the Florida criteria for a Stroke Alert. Karen and her husband, Alan, were grateful for the air ambulance service that helped make her recovery possible, but they were shocked when they found out their insurance company covered the entire hospital bill, but would only cover a quarter of their air medical bill. Alan believes that, like his insurance company, very few consumers know the protection is there. So he is working to get the word out to other patients who meet one of the health alert conditions.

One of the youngest survivors of last month’s Sutherland Springs church shooting, who is also an Air Methods patient, is requesting holiday cards be sent to him this Christmas as he continues to recover from the deadliest mass shooting in Texas history. Air Methods leadership, who is also participating in the holiday card efforts, has asked that our teammates please consider sending a card to Ryland.
